It’s amazing how much hardship some of our dogs can bounce back from and have cheerful dispositions despite it. One of our popular kennel pups, Courage, has come such a long way in a year. From cowering to enjoying Christmas and water therapy, it’s obvious Courage found the place he was meant to be! Please enjoy this update from Courage’s mom and help us thank his family for being an amazing place for Courage to live.
“January 6th was Courage's "family day" – a year since we brought him home. We were all (humans and pup) unsure of each other that day. Courage cowered in a corner of the kitchen next to the dishwasher, microwave, fridge… all scary noisy appliances that freaked him out even more. He wouldn't let us touch him, wouldn't take his meds, wouldn't eat, wouldn't take treats … and I wasn't sure what to do about any of it.
A year later and that memory is just a blur – he greets me every morning with a tail wag, demands for ear scratches, and a happy bark. He skips around in the back yard with his doggie siblings (two aussie/border collies who love to chase the ball while he stands in the middle of them barking joyfully). He loves to snuggle with me, likes his human siblings to sit with him in his dog bed and read to him, will do almost anything for a dog treat or a lick of pumpkin, and he waits in his bed every night for me to kiss him on his nose and tell him how much I love him. His arthritis is much worse than it was, and he's in pain constantly, but he is one of the happiest sweetest dogs I've ever met. He brings our family so much joy and we feel so lucky to have had a whole year with him already 💕”
